by Queen Elizabeth. He attended Christ College at Cambridge and received his
A.M. degree. He studier Law in London, butr abandoned this study at the death o
f
his father. He returned to Kelson Manor and continued the building of the Manor

house started by his father. He spent much time in Court and was noted for his
wit and humor.

John gained fame by introducing piped water in the Kelson Manor and perfecting
the first modern flush water closet in history.

John married Mary Rogers of a prominent Somerset family. He became High
Sheriff of Somerset and was Knighted while on expedition for the conquest of
Ireland. Queen Elizabeth died in 1603, and Sire John retired to Kelson, where
misfortunes came upon him. He became involved in litigation with the Rogers
family (his in-laws) and was compelled to pay a large sum of money he had
pledged. He was briefly imprissoned. Upon release, he returned to Kelston Mano
r
and died at the age of 51. John and Mary had nine children. Some of which came

to the American Colonies in the early 1600's. He was heavily invested in Va.Co.
